MISSONI 1972 Rainbow Knit Set
MISSONI 1972 Rainbow Knit Set
A frenzy of color, this Missoni rainbow two piece set is absolutely stunning! The top portion is designed as a multi layer sheer tunic, cut at different lengths for full movement with a cape-like effect and fitted under layer. The skirt portion of this garment has a hook and eye closure at the waist and mimics the top portion of the garment with multi layered bias cut knit fabric cut all the way up to the waist line. Amazing together, but can also be worn as separates.
This set was featured in the May 1972 issue of Vogue as shot by Irving Penn. In a recent interview with Vogue, Angela Missoni remembers this specific look on the runway during the Missoni spring fashion show in Capri; “This dress, I remember, was made for a fashion show that they had in Capri, in a kind of open theater there. I went with my parents; that was the first time I went to Capri. I was 13 years old. Two years ago, I was in Capri, and I went into an old photography shop, and I looked up [at the walls], and they had pictures of that same fashion show. Exactly that fashion show. And so I asked to have a copy of a picture, and it turns out it was a very famous picture from that time, because of this dress. The girl was turning on the catwalk, on the podium, and when she turned like that, the dress was so light, and her breast came out, and she was naked! It was a scandal.”
We love a scandalous moment!
